Dhanusha: President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said the party will now prioritize quality, commitment, and integrity over the sheer number of active members.

Speaking at the Madhesh Province-level election review program held in Janakpurdham, Thapa announced that the party will launch a “purification campaign” to strengthen its organization with responsible and dedicated cadres, even if their numbers are smaller.

“Now, what we need is not a large number or crowd of active members, but loyal and committed cadres. The party will move forward by formulating policies accordingly,” Thapa said.

He informed that the process of updating active membership will begin from Baisakh 15, after which the purification campaign will be expanded nationwide. Thapa emphasized that an organization with one lakh committed members would be more effective than one million members who fail to stand with the party during difficult times.

He also stressed that unity, discipline, and adherence to principles would inject new energy into the party and help regain public trust. “We will move forward by bringing the Congress closer to the people and winning their confidence,” he added.

Highlighting the need to review the results of the recent House of Representatives elections, Thapa described the current situation as challenging in the party’s history and called for learning from past shortcomings. He also committed to ensuring the success of the party’s upcoming 15th General Convention.

The program, chaired by Joint General Secretary Farmulla Mansur, also featured remarks from Madhesh Province President and Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, who urged party cadres not to lose hope.

Vice President Pushpa Bhusal, General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire, Joint General Secretaries Dr. Dila Sangraula and Mukta Yadav, along with representatives from all eight districts of the province, were present at the event.
